- Discussion questions (episode 20)
·
What do you think is meant by the title, Broken Flowers?
The film focuses on people struggling with a
lack of fulfilment in their lives, a sense that they could have been more than
what they have allowed themselves to become. The wonderful thing about God is
that He loves to bring healing to our lives and restore ‘broken flowers’ so
that they might blossom as He intended.
·
Read Mark 5: 21-43. How does Jesus restore the lives
of the two people in this passage? In both cases, what was needed for healing
to occur?
The film Midnight
Clear presents the view that incidents in our lives that we may attribute
to coincidence or ‘twists of fate’ are, in fact, divine interventions.
·
Has there been an incident in your own life where
you can clearly identify God’s intervention? Were you aware of God’s hand in
the situation at the time or was it something that you realised later?
·
In the film, Top
Gun, Maverick is deeply affected by the death of his father and his close
friend ‘Goose’. Read Isaiah 43: 18-19. What advice does this Scripture give
those who, like Maverick, are grappling with painful episodes from the past?
What hope does it offer for the future?
·
We can often associate movies with specific chapters
in our lives. Rod states that Top Gun
“brings back good memories of a time in my life that I look back on with a
smile”. Is there a film that reminds you of a particular time in your life?
Write a short paragraph (approx. 100 wds) explaining the connection between
this film and your own life.
