Refreshing Others

I have found that generosity is the vital key to sustained blessing in my life. It’s generous living that causes your world to expand and that will sustain you to run your race to the finish line.

Proverbs 11:25 teaches us, “The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.” According to this God-given principle, generosity is a form of spiritual hydration.

Through a lifestyle of generosity, we can refresh others by giving our time, our talents, our possessions, and by learning to put others’ needs ahead of our own.

If our world is only about “me” and “my needs,” we are building a very small world for ourselves. Worse still, we won’t be sustained and refreshed by God in the same way that we would if we lived beyond ourselves and learned to “water” the lives of others.

If ever I find that I’m feeling down or weary, or perhaps I’m a bit frustrated because I’m believing God for something that hasn’t happened yet, I find the best thing that I can do is to seek to meet someone else’s need or to pray for them. Whenever I do, the results are amazing! I’ve found that as I start to take my eyes off myself and my needs and begin helping others to fulfill theirs, God begins to take care of me and often those deep desires of my heart quickly come to pass.

Even when I was working through the emotional issues of my past and dealing with rejection, unforgiveness, abuse, and pain, I found that if I extended my hand to help someone else, my own healing process was accelerated and became much more bearable. God did great things in my life when I took my eyes off myself and focused on the needs of others.

Challenge yourself today and ask, “What can I do to ‘water’ the lives of those around me?” Let’s make the decision to live our lives with others in mind; lives that extends and reach far beyond ourselves.
