Harry Hartwig was MAF’s first pilot in Papua New Guinea.Early on May 7 1951, Hartwig set out on a little Auster Autocar to go to Madang on Papua New Guinea’s northern coast to initiate MAF’s first air service in the Asia-Pacific region. From those humble beginnings, MAF has grown a sophisticated and highly efficient operation together with the wider partnership of MAF around the globe.
It’s estimated that throughout the year, on average, a MAF aircraft takes off from a remote airstrip somewhere in the world every six minutes. That’s nearly 90,000 flights in service of the world’s poorest and most disadvantaged, giving them access to a range of life-saving and life-changing services, all carried out with love and prayer in Christ’s name.
Throughout October we will be broadcasting a variety of Documentaries which highlight the amazing work of MAF around the world in celebration of the 60th Anniversary. To find out more information about these great programs CLICK HERE.
