Crusaders Luncheon shows 'Living Proof'
On Friday 9th March over 170 business people attended a fundraising lunch at NSW Parliament house to support the work of The Crusader Union in reaching NSW school students with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Over $200,000 was raised to support Crusaders growing ministries amongst 30,000 NSW school students each year through their 3 part strategy of CRU holiday camps, SUMMIT school camps and CRU lunch-time school groups.
The business luncheon is Crusaders’ major fundraising event for the year and was hosted by Mr. John Ryan MP (Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party in the Legislative Council) and Mr. Philip Bell (Crusaders Chairman).
The theme for this year’s event was ‘Living Proof’, and there was no shortage of people who are living proof of Crusaders life changing ministry. One young life that has been significantly impacted by the ministry of Crusaders is Yr 12 Roseville College student, Rachel Bennett who attended and spoke at the luncheon. She said
“I remember my first CRU Camp 5 years ago – Sail Mania. I remember it because of the people I met, the fun I had and the memories I made...but most of all I remember it because it was that week when I committed my life to God...at that time I didn’t really know what that involved, so it was awesome that Roseville had a lunchtime CRU Group so that I could learn more about how to live as a Christian. Now that I’m in Year 12 I’m helping to lead the group!”
My Phillip Heath, Head of School at St Andrew’s Cathedral School gave an inspiring message about the effectiveness of camps in the lives of young people, and the incredible impact that Crusaders January Leadership Camp had on a young man from his school.
“You don’t need to look too far to see the living proof of the effectiveness of Crusaders under the mighty hand of God. Whatever the initial point (of connection), Crusaders has looked to provide a network of Bible teaching within a fun framework to reach, win, train and send. In CRU Camps alone the number of campers on has increased by 52% in the last 5 years, with over 1000 souls won to Christ...!” said Crusaders’ Executive Director, Gary Hill, who was extremely pleased with the outcome of this year’s function.
In the upcoming winter school holidays, Crusaders will be running 16 CRU Holiday Camps for students in school years 4-12. Activities include ski, general activity and 4 HSC study camps.
