schools

Welcome to our page just for schools!

Calling all teachers! This is the place for you.

The Australian Christian Channel is committed to building a resource that can be used by teachers and students in Christian schools and colleges. We will highlight programs that we feel are particularly useful to school’s Christian studies programs or for use in other curriculum areas, provide study and discussion guides when possible, and link to fun stuff for kids. Head to our acc.kids page for more for younger children or to the youth spACCe for shows geared for high schoolers.

Why not
EMAIL us and let us know what sort of things you’d like to see on our schools page? We want to make our schools page truly useful and relevant.

Travel the Road

Join two young missionaries as they serve the Lord all over the world with just a backpack, a change of clothes and a message of hope.

Travel the Road is a unique look into the world of frontline mission work. The journey is filled with danger, excitement, adventure and epic triumph as Tim and Will undertake unbelievable expeditions into the most remote areas of the world to bring the gospel.

Their mission begins on the Zambezi River where they undertake an expedition to locate remote villages while having to navigate daunting jungle rapids and crocodile-infested waters. But their desire to bring the gospel to those in desperate need will soon lead them on a series of risky missions to the world’s most dangerous war zones. From treacherous food drops in Mogadishu, Somalia to intense patrolling missions in Darfur, Sudan, Tim and Will encounter clan militias, warlords and isolated tribes as they traverse the vast expanse of Africa to deliver the eternal message of hope.

High schoolers will love the suspense, fast paced action and exotic locations and will be inspired by the hosts’ unbridled enthusiasm.

The following are resources that can be used to fuel group discussion questions for high school students that would be perfect for any Christian Studies class but particularly suited to a preparation program for a short term missions team.

give me an answer

Give Me an Answer asks all the tough questions. The shows are recorded on college campus across the United States where Cliffe Knechtle engages with sceptical students and professors at such universities as Harvard, MIT, Stanford and the University of California at Berkeley.

Cliffe started his ministry 20 years ago by just talking with students for 5 or ten minutes. He soon found he was talking to sometimes hundreds of students for hours at a time. Give Me an Answer has proved to be a very effective way of reaching a large number of students with the gospel of Jesus Christ. His main aim is to provide honest answers about Christianity to as many people as possible.

Give Me an Answer would be a great discussion starter for a Christian studies class. It aims ‘to answer life’s most difficult questions - yours. The ones you always wondered about but were afraid to ask.’ Questions explored by Cliffe and the students include:

Is the resurrection real? Does freewill exist?
Is Jesus the only way? Why believe in God?
Does God allow evil? Why different morals?
Is God necessary? Why Jesus?
Is the Bible accurate? What about other religions?
Was Jesus perfect? Is God imagined?
What is heaven? Did God forsake Jesus?

Give Me an Answer airs on Monday at 12:30am, Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday at 1:30am and 11.30pm, Saturday 11.30am and Sunday 5:30pm. This program goes for 30 minutes.

Reel

Hosted by Rod Hopping, Reel asks us to ‘consider the big picture’ reviewing the latest DVD releases and film classics from quite a different perspective. Featuring clips from films, Rod challenges viewers to think more deeply about what they are seeing and to consider the more spiritual themes presented in popular movies.

Jesus told His disciples that He told stories as a way of ‘nudging people towards receptive insight’ (Mark 4 – The Message version). Likewise Reel is a show focusing on modern day parables – movies.

The movies we watch can have a powerful impact on our lives. Reel asks viewers to consider how the films they watch can help to ‘nudge’ them towards their destiny – or perhaps even introduce them to the original Storyteller.

Along with thought-provoking reviews, Reel will show clips of each film and provide a star rating that will focus value on how the film can benefit spiritual life. Each episode presents a review of one of the latest mainstream DVD movie releases along with a new faith-based DVD release, plus one of Rod’s personal old favourites – dusted off and ready to inspire yet again.

Designed to entertain, inform, challenge and inspire, Reel would make a great addition to a Film and Television, English, Media Studies, Drama or Christian Studies curriculum for senior students.

The following are high-school discussion question ideas available for past episodes of Reel. The questions are not only designed to be used in conjunction with the show but could be a starting point for looking at some of the films from a Christian Studies perspective. Please note: that some of the films reviewed are recommended for mature audiences and so may not be suitable for students under the age of 15.
